Galileo's Contradictory Discoveries

An astonishing mathematician, physicist, and one of the fathers of astronomy; Galileo Galilei changed the way we see the Universe. Until the 17th Century, everybody thought the earth was at the center of the Universe. Everything known to man rotated around the earth. Galileo amplified the vision of the telescope and he discovered that Saturn has rings that orbit it, hence the rings of Saturn. He discovered that Venus goes through phases like our moon does, and that the moon has an uneven surface. From the discovery he made of Venus changing phases around the sun, he knew that it had to revolve around the sun, and therefore hypothesized the earth was just another planet in the universe. The uneven, mountainous surface of the moon contradicted the belief that everything in the heavens (space) was perfect and unchanging. These were radical changes that the church was not ready to accept, believing that the earth was not the center of the Universe was insane. Galileo would've probably suffered severe consequences from the church if he wasn't such a recognized and respected university professor of the time. Nevertheless, the church still classified his discoveries as insanity, heresy, and fake news. Nowadays we know for a fact that his claims are true, his discoveries made science take a different route, and from that moment on; completely changed space the way we know it.
